Re: [MS_AccessPros] Different versions of Access

Liz-

It uses SaveAsText to dump each object to a text file, then runs through the text file and removes stuff that could have gotten messed up with Name AutoCorrupt, the printer data, and the controls added by 2010.  You can then use the same tool to try to import the text files (LoadFromText) into a new blank database that has AutoCorrupt turned off.  I originally wrote the utility to fix Name AutoCorrupt issues, but expanded it to try to deal with the new controls that 2007 doesn't recognize.

John, I admit I am intrigued!  So what does your FixBroken utility do?

The short answer is yes, later versions of Access add controls that are unrecognized by 2007.  All you have to do is open one form or report in Design view, then you're toast for going back.   (You don't have to make changes or save.)

You can try my FixBroken utility in the Files section, but it's not guaranteed to work for databases modified in 2016.  It was originally built to deal with 2010.

I have a database that I created in Access 2007 and have worked on it
with my home desktop and my work laptop. Recently upgraded the desktop
to Access 2016 and the database appears to function properly on it.

But I am unable to open the database on the laptop, seeing an error
message which reads "An error occurred while loading 'here it inserts
the name of a specific form'. Do you want to continue loading the
project.?" If I click Yes, I get another error message: Material & Log
cannot change the design of frmItemDisplaySpreadsheetStyle. The minimum
required version to change the design is 14.0.0000.0000.! "

I haven't made any design c! hanges since upgrading the desktop. Does just
opening the database in Access 2016 make changes to the database so that
it is incompatible with Access 2007?

Any workarounds or fixes for my problem?

Steve
