RE: [MS_AccessPros] OT: clock -- from: Retain only the letters and numbers in a string

AHA - it was so long ago. Mine wasn't really a clock. It was a stop watch. NOW I remember.

sounds like fun, Liz. I had to use straight lines for the hands, and not even a nice end-type ... but they move! There are 2 modes. One is for setting the time and one is to behave like a clock -- and then the second hand appears too.

yes, Giorgio, I will make a video too! ... and when I logon to YouTube and post it, I will answer all the questions ~ but to answer yours right now (thanks for asking!) ... the difference between using "0" and "#" is to force a digit to show or display nothing. "0" will force the display. Here is a link with format codes for numbers:

RE: [MS_AccessPros] Re: Form opens minimized

Hi Steve

I believe I have seen a situation where a continuous form with no RecordSource (RecordSource was set in Open or Load) opened as a very small rectangle.  I thought it might have been related.

I'm glad the problem has gone away at least
J

Warmly,
Graham

Hi Graham,

Thanks for following up, but . . . in the process of trying to develop a functional form I appear to have deleted the misbehaving form.

I did have code in the open and load events, not that it matters much now. I tried AutoResize yes and no with the same results.

I regret having lost it, I would like to have leaned what was causing the form's ill behavior.

Thank you.

Hi Crystal

Your All-Access clock sounds cool!  Is this why you were asking about getting X,Y on a line?

As there is no way or predicting the order or arrangement of the "unwanted" characters in the string, you would need to call Replace() once for each potential character. There are only 62 "wanted" characters (0-9, A-Z, a-z) , so with 256 characters in the ANSI set you would need to call Replace() 194 times. If we're talking Unicode, then we're potentially into 10s of thousands!

> The Replace() function will only replace a specified substring within the input string. It does not handle wildcards.

[0-9A-Z] would make sense since the brackets are substitution for a single character, so Access would know that "9" is once character and "A" is a different character. Also, A=a, as you probably found out. I never thought about comma being interpreted as something to look for, and apparently, neither have others that have posted examples -- nice to know! If you put a comma in a bracketed expression, it is interpreted literally ... I knew that but just never thought about it for series of lists, so thank you
