My earlier message was too confident. I found the previous advice from April 2105:
>You have to select one of the controls in the layout first, then click the Arrange tab. On the far left is the AutoFormat group. Next is the Control Layout group, and the button >you want is third from the left - Tabular / Stacked / Remove. Click Remove.

That worked in 2015 but today nothing happens. What Have I missed?
