RE: [MS_AccessPros] RE: close db not firing form close events

Liz

That's actually a pretty common thing with Access. I occasionally find that a button or other control with event procedures loses its link to the Sub during development. Now that you mention it, it might have been a copy and paste but I can't swear to it. As Graham said, clicking the builder button will re-link the event to the Sub.

Thanks Graham.  I discovered that I had the break point on a shutdown form that doesn't open for me, and decided it was Friday-brain-went-on-happy-hour thing.

That is weird how that happens.  I learned that if you copy and paste a button on a form that has code, that the code unbinds itself.  Then all you have to do is click on the ellipses and it rebinds.  Strange.

Hi Liz

No, the code should still execute and it shouldn't ignore your breakpoint.  In fact, this is a common way of preventing a database from closing, except under controlled conditions.  If a form is open and you set Cancel to True in Form_Unload, then the database can never close.

Sometimes an object can become "disconnected" from its event procedures for no apparent reason.  For example, you have a Form_Close procedure in the form module, but the OnClose property of the form is blank.  Check OnClose in the property sheet and make sure it says [Event Procedure].

Cheers,
Graham

So, if you have a breakpoint in a form close event, but then shot the database instead of just the form it ignores the breakpoint?

Wait.  I think it is something else.

Maybe it is because it is Friday afternoon and my brain has already gone to happy hour.

Pros, I have a database that is not firing the form close events.  Any understanding why?  Has anyone seen this?

Respectfully,
