The earlier part of the thread is missing, so if this is not do-able, apologies. I would put the 2nd Access file in Windows Task Scheduler and use an AutoExec macro with a RunCode item to run whatever this job is.
Hope that helps,
Steve

hi Bill, thanks so far.
So i can create a second front end database to run the update procedure.
Now how can is start that from the main frontend?
Should i use the shell command to start another the second frontend, and then how should i automatically start the procedure ?
Or is there a more flexible way of interacting with a second frontend from the mail frontend without the screen freezing while the second frontend is running the update?
Thanks for your thinking ..
Onno
