Bill,
What is the purpose of the main form? Is it bound to a parent table? Is it bound to any table? If the main form isn't for editing or viewing a parent table, it should be unbound (no record source).
If the combo box is used only to select a record for filtering the subform, it should not have a control source (should be unbound),
