Thanks very much your idea!  Sorry it took me a while to get it all working since I don't know Access well and I have no front end development experiences.  I created a continuous form with an indexed view as record source. The list view shows up pretty quickly. Then users can use filter to narrow down to one or a few records, double click it and open the original form with all those bound fields to review and edit. The DAO code also seems very useful.  Though I don't need to use it this time,  I'll bookmark it in case I need to do something later.
