Hi Patricia,
We're expecting to have a complete Odata webservice with Access Desktop both as client as as backend. It's gonna take us just another couple of days but we're behind with a webcontent managesystem that we're already behind with. I hope to finish the odata api in three or four weeks, so if you can wait that long……
Everything will be done in VBA using the scripting engine – language on Jscript - and the encryption COM. A small under 10 line C# ASP. Net WebAPI using Access Automation. It will replace all Lookups in tables by all the fields of the looked up table recursively. We're not sure whether you'll be able to create looked-up tables on the fly or that you will have to create a new item in it with its own odata table reference.
With oData Actions you'll be able to call all of your VBA functions and procudures.
At the moment we use oData from Navision/BusinessCentral by a CLS StoredProcedure that gives us API Get/Post calls within sql-server. Tables like project- and employee-lists can then be stored in SQL-server to provide element lookups in PowerApps, Flow etc. On opening a PowerApp (or an Access Desktop Application), the database will refresh all components from the backup Navision or backend (Access/Excel App by then). We like having SQL-Server in between hosts and clients a lot to keep session state records and other stuff on behalf of the front-end that's not in the BackEnd.
Kind regards,
Rob
