[MS_AccessPros] RE: Port Control

Hi Ahmed,

"it is not working" leaves quite a few questions open.

I have not tested this in Windows 8 as I haven't done anything with Serial Ports since I moved over from direct Serial Port access to printer driver access of serial ports.

That having been said, there are a lot of reasons which might lead you to conclude "it is not working".

First of all, do you get the "file" open succesfully? Does it, instead of accessing the serial port, create a file called "COM4" in the current directory of your application? Did you try using "COM4:" (a colon on the end) ?

If the port did open and you did not get A file called "COM4" with the output of your Print, did the display do anything? if you get the file open and you don't get a COM4 file then, you are probably being successful at opening the port and sending data but, you are sending the data at a Baud rate from your computer which the Display is not expecting.  Those displays are usually set to 9600 Baud but they might be 2400 or 19,200 and your windows might have a default BAUD rate on the port which isincompatible.  (Therre are other parameters which might be important here, like parity et cetera but you would at least get *some* action on the display if it was only these things whoch were wrong.

When we know the answers to these questions, we can proceed with debugging :-)

Yours,
Andrew
