RE: [MS_AccessPros] MS Access too slow on new remote (hyper v) computer

Since you are comparing different versions of Access you are sure to get a variance in performance. But you are using SQL 2012 for you back end. That tells me you might not be taking advantage of the best SQL Server ODBC client. Office 2003 came with SQL Server client. Later versions come with SQL Server Native Client 10 or 11. The latest one is SQL Server Native Client 11 and is by far the best one to use with SQL 2012. You should see a marked improvement overall.

You will probably have to install it on the computer with Access 2003, Build a new ODBC DNS file and use it to link your tables.

Also, compact that add-in as well as the front ends on all computers. I don't know what it is doing, but the database might have become bloated over time.

Our custom application is very large MDB file linked to SQL Server 2012.
It is being in use for more than a decade and we've been adding new functions into it during this time.

I understand there can be many things in that application that can be improved such as extensively using Views or Stored Procedures instead of Access queries to improve performance.

Having said this, I gave that tool's example to let you know there's something that makes Access slow.
I am clueless what can be done.

What could cause an Access file to become slow with no apparent reason?
