Re: [MS_AccessPros] Forms Work Practices

David-

I tend to have a common form design for all tables, with subforms or tabs used as appropriate to edit related data.  I will also sometimes design an "add one row" form to be invoked from the Not In List event of combo boxes.

For example, I might have a form called frmCompany to edit company data and a form called frmCompanyAdd that gets opened as a dialog from, perhaps, the company combo box on a form to edit contacts.  See the sample database I suggested you download in my previous message.

For your typical design work, do you typically have certain types of forms for each table?  i.e. do you typically have a form that is used for adding records, one for viewing records, one for editing records, etc.  Or do you typically have a single form that is used for multiple actions?

I know there is not a one size fits all, but on a typical basis?

Re: [MS_AccessPros] Default Font

David-

When I have a form layout that I want to use over and over, I create a form called zfrmTemplate.  I add a copy of all the standard controls that I want to use - including command buttons and any common code behind the the controls like Click for the command buttons or Before Update for the controls.  Every time I want to build another form using the "template", I open zfrmTemplate in Design View and then save it as the name of the new form I want to build.  Note that you can also select each control on the form and choose the "Set Control Defaults" button in the Controls group of the Design tab.  If you set the defaults, you can also go to Settings / Object Designers and change the name of the Form Template to zfrmTemplate.  Note, however, that this changes the name for ALL of your databases.

You can go to the Downloads section of my website:

Download the Contacts 2007 database, and you'll find an example zfrmTemplate there.

Re: [MS_AccessPros] Requery

David-

I believe when you requery lst1, that resets its value, so yes, you should requery 2 and 3 when that happens.  Setting (or resetting) a value from an action in code does not fire the After Update event.

I have a cmd button where I add a record to lst1, and within the cmd button statements after the add form is closed, I requery lst1.  Does the after update event on lst1 cause requerying of lst2 and lst3.  Or do I specifically have to requery those lists?
