[MS_AccessPros] Re: Count Number of User that have backend open

ok will try.
BTW: If I 'move/use' my application to/on another computer, do I need to unzip it on that computer also?.
Not sure what it is updating on the C drive

Sarah - If I remember right you have to unzip the add-in to your C: drive. The location of the FE/BE does not matter. You need to open the BE and use the add-in there in order to see all the users who open the FE.

Hi Bill,

backend="scheme_erp,mdb". all my mde's are linked to this be.

If I open  "scheme_erp.mde" in the same directory , the user shows up in the user roster. If I open this fe multiple times, all the users are listed in the roster.
If I open "scheme_erp1.mde" in the same directory, the user does not show up in the roster.
"user1\scheme_erp.mde" and "user2\scheme_erp.mde" do not show up in the user roster.

It seems to be working only if the be and fe names are the same and are located in the same directory.

Maybe because I did not follow your installation instructions: I unzipped it in my samples folder on my network drive and I am not running it as an add in. Just copied in all the code. Maybe this has something to do with it?.,

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah

I'm not sure I understand. You use the roster while in the back end, not the front end. When a user opens his local copy of the front end a connection is made to the back end and he should show up in the roster.

Hi Bill,

For now I am not opening the ' frmInactiveShutDown' form.
Anyway I am more interested in seeing who is logged in and being able to automatically log them out and that
is working. This is a huge help.

However, the User Roster does not list all users, unless they are using the same .mde . If another user is using the same mde to open the backend, then the user is listed. However, when I send the logout request message, all the users are getting the message and are all being closed out, even if they are not listed in the roster. I guess the timer triggers when the adminmessage table changes.

When I distribute the application, each user has to have their own mde.
I can use it the way it is,  just wondering why it dos not list all the users in the user roster?

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah

I'll take a look as soon as I can. I'm very busy at work this week. Try setting it to a shorter time like 10 minutes to see if that works.

Bill,
I love the ShowUserRoster utility. But I am having one problem with it, even though I changed the 'intMinutesUntilShutDown = 720' (720/60= 12hours!!!) in the inactive shutdown form, the message triggers after a very short time and the application closes.
What am I doing wrong?
Sarah

I have a split database : shared backend on a network and every user has their own front end.

Is there a way to count the number of users that currently have the backend open?

I am using Access 2003.

Thanks for your help

Sarah
