RE: [MS_AccessPros] Many To Many question

Jim – as blunt as this may be, I have to say this: You are the one who built the database. Therefore, you have the best knowledge of how to proceed. Over the years of your membership here, you have demonstrated a lot of skill growth. Now is the time to take the steps to do what must be done.

What I do when analyzing database structure is to draw it out on a whiteboard and break it down to the tables and elements and how they relate. Now is the time for you to apply all the knowledge you've acquired through experience.

I trust you really know how to proceed but lack the confidence. We'll be here for you , but you need to grab the brass ring right now.

Regards,

Bill Mosca

Subject: [MS_AccessPros] Many To Many question

Hello all,

So I was asked by a client if I could rebuild a database that I built years ago. Their needs have changed drastically and would like a fresh start.

But I have some questions that I never had to deal with before.

The database I previously built had several tables with management companies in one table and HOA's in another table. Now when I first built the database there was no many to many, but only a 1 to m between the mgt co and the hoa tables. but we found out that an hoa can decide to move to another mgt co.

So I can do that with no problem with a junction table. the users issues are that it would be another table that they would have to manage. not too sure about that for themselves.

But then they told me that there is a new type of hoa that is called a self managed hoa. the client told me today that these self managed hoa's sometimes break under the pressure and move to a management co.

My question is would I need another junction table between the management co and .... frankly I am not sure what table would be there. do I split the self managed and management co and create a junction table between them also????

Thank You So Much for any advice.
