RE: [MS_AccessPros] Extracting Initial From Fist Name - OOOPS

One of the many things I love about this group is that I have sometimes found my error while typing out my problem for the forum, then deleted my email, and went on to the work.

I had missed the fact that Robin's first post used an "=" while the second correctly used ":".  I was looking at the expression and couldn't find a difference in the posts.

What do you mean by "failed miserably"?

Based on your values, your expression should have worked. I think we are missing part of the puzzle.

Robin,
Could you provide a variety of actual first name values?

I need to extract the initial from the first names in a member directory.

I tried using this in a query - Initial=Left([mFirstName],1) and
failed miserably.

What have I missed?

Many thanks,

Robin Chapple
