[MS_AccessPros] Re: Access 2003 incompatible with Access 2016?

Earl

I don't know what that xml file is for. Rename the xml file to msaccess.exe_Rules.xml.old. Then try opening the 2003 file in Access. Another thing you can try is to open a new, blank database and import everything from a 2003 file into it.

You might also try repairing Office if you haven't already.

No Sir, bill,

I still have an Office_2003 folder with sub-folders  named Access, Excel, Word, etc., where I kept my [data] files, but never found the program itself. I did find an MSACCESS.EXE file, but it's in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16. I can run that program, but it can't open -- or at least can't run -- the 2003 mdb. There was also an msaccess.exe_Rules.xml file but no folder designation. I'm wondering if that's not the original executable with the _Rules.xml tagged on to make it unusable. I'd be afraid to change and try to run it, even if I could find it. 'Fraid I'd screw the pooch for good as the astronauts said.

Any other suggestions for how I might find the actual program if it's there?

Earl - Are you sure Office is gone? I've heard others say they lost Office but then they looked in the Explorer and it was all there. Only the shortcuts were gone.

Do a search for msaccess.exe I bet it shows up!

Thanks, Bill,

I should have added that, when I let M$ upgrade me from Win-7 to Win-10, the new OS [did not] include A-2003, which I had installed on the old one. It did bring along many other applications but not the Office app. This led me to assume that Win-10 and the old Office were somehow incompatible. I had hoped against hope, though, that the newer Access app could somehow take care of it. I may just be out of luck. Sure hope not and that it's just something I don't know how to navigate or accomplish.

BTW, thanks for the compliment on my pet, but he's not my work. AFAIK, a friend who taught me a lot of what little I know about Linux and whose name was Richard, created it. I just  lifted it from one of his posts on a Linux users group webpage.

Earl

Access 2003 files should open in 2016.
Cute bunny by the way.
