[MS_AccessPros] Re: Database protection

If you are using the mdb format (Access 2003 and before), you can use Workgroup and User Permissions to tightly protect the tables in the Access file. If you are using the accdb format (Access 2007 and on), that is not included. It's possible to install the dll (don't remember the name) if you have the mdb version around somewhere, but otherwise the only protection is to password the database.

That said, if you split your database so that the tables are all in SQL server (except for local temporary and lookups), you have absolute control over the tables using SQL security, which is much more powerful.

For my clients all the programs I do for them have SQL backends, and a user password system I wrote for multiple user access to the program.
