Hi Art, I have succesfully used the Scanner SDK ActiveX from Viscomsoft. Depending on how much you are prepared to invest they also have Barcode and OCR modules. I haven't tested the OCR ofr Barcode stuff as I had no need for it but multipage PDF and TIFF worked well.
and, really, I went through the whole "doing it myself by Hand" coding successes and spent more time costing more money than the investment in the Tool cost me, and the tool could do more.
The demo they had was quite good at showing the features if not exactly pretty.
