to 2) no, you have to handle a refreshlink yourself. I maintain a database structure version on the SQL Server side and when the front-end sees a change on the back-end, it does a relink. (In fact, I normally force a complete restart of the front-end with a fresh copy and complete linking of the remote tables/views.)

to 1) it was always OK for me and my applications. For a while I had a function which was able to decide whether to apply dbSeeChanges, in the end the function was still called in the code returned a fixed value, no matter whaere the tables/views/queries were.
