Thanks for sharing your solution. I don't know what has changed in Excel (or maybe Access) that caused the described behavior.

By the way, can you please include the entire thread when you post. Some of us respond via email an it makes it difficult to follow a thread if it isn't included.

Well i finally figured out how to fix this, although I still don't know the cause.  Essentially the code used to:
Open the file
Format the file to match the table in access
Import (transferspreadsheet)
Save the file with a different name so we have the original and imported version

That worked for years, but for whatever reason it quit working.  I changed it to
Open
Format
SAVE
import

and it worked.  I had tried this before, however, and it didn't work, but for whatever reason this time it did.

The reason I tried again is because I have a spreadsheet with a bunch of calculations on it, but they don't update until I save, although they used to update whenever I would change the value in a cell.  Either way, changing the order of execution solved this one.
