RE: [MS_AccessPros] Auto Numbers

Jay-

Further to Duane's comments - You can change AutoNumber to Number, Long
Integer, but you can't go the other way directly if there is data in the
table. To take a table containing data that has a Long Integer field and
convert that field to AutoNumber, do:

1) Select the table in the DB Window / Nav Pane and copy it to the
clipboard.

2) Paste - structure only - into a new table.

3) Open the new table in Design View and change to AutoNumber.

4) Paste-Append the data on the clipboard to the new table.

Jay,

There are some of us who subscribe to multiple groups so posting the same
question across more than one group is a bit annoying. If you don't get an
answer in one group, then it might be appropriate to either clarify your
question or post to another group.

Apparently your profile number field is an Autonumber (based on your message
subject). If this is the case, you can't change the numbers or fill in the
gaps. If you feel compelled to do this, then you aren't using the autonumber
correctly.
