RE: [MS_AccessPros] Access and Windows CE

Doyce:
To my recollection, there was a "Pocket Access" (among Pocket versions of all the then-current MS Office apps) that ran on Windows CE. Which version of Win CE that was is way beyond my memory capacity.

However, why go so far backwards in terms of your mobile O/S? There must be something for modern handhelds that will scan the barcodes and then, at a minimum,  send them as text/csv to somewhere on your network that your Access app can pick up and then feed to MSSQL (or itself).

hth, and good luck,

Subject: [MS_AccessPros] Access and Windows CE

Hello friends,

Does anyone know if Access will run on Windows CE 5.0? I've created a database that tracks the trailers we make as they move down the assembly line. It works by scanning a bar code that is on the front of the trailer while an entry form is displayed on a laptop with a USB barcode scanner attached. When the barcode is scanned, a record is created showing that particular trailer moving to the next work center. We scan it multiple times as it moves down the line to the next work center. Instead of using a laptop with a scanner attached, I'm wondering if a Mobile Computer Barcode Scanner such as the Motorola MC3090G could be used? It runs Windows CE Pro 5.0. I don't have one of these to try and don't want to buy one if it won't work. I'm also wondering if any of you have any better ideas for how to make this work?
