Re: [MS_AccessPros] Adding Image to combo dropdown

Bill,

After playing with it for awhile, I am coming to terms that I will probably have to do without. No budget for third-party components. May MS will include something like it in upcoming release of Access.

The only thing I don't like about ActiveX controls is that you have to make sure all users have it registered on their computers and it has to be the same version number. That means more maintenance on your part.

John,

After digging around some more, what are your feelings on ActiveX controls. I found a ImageCombobox but are the use of  ActiveX worth it?

You could consider a continuous subform that appears only when the user clicks a command button.  You would need code to show/hide the control and code to handle updating the underlying field if the combo is bound when the user picks a row.  More trouble than it's worth.

John,

Would there be a way to fake it? Maybe using a combination of controls? OK, I will go back to dreaming...

You can't.  The columns in a combo box are always Text data type.

How can I add an image to a combo list.? I have a combo box called cboDocStatus and the items I want the list to contain are

an image of a flag and the status.

So for instance

Flag Color           Status Text
green flag           Approved
yellow flag          Draft
red flag              Rejected

Any ideas?
