Many thanks Duane,

This sounds like corruption of the form.
Has this form ever worked?
No! This is the first change that has been needed. You made me rethink the design. I have replaced the option group with a combo box and all is well.
Again many thanks,

If it only recently began having troubles have you changed anything recently?
What do you mean by "the 'Save'"?
What happens if you create a simple form with some other method for changing the resident status? Does Access close?
What is the data type of the resident status?
I assume each option tick box has a unique numeric option value and the option group is bound to a field in the form's record source.
