RE: [MS_AccessPros] Access display of Money from SQL Server in linked table

Thanks to all who jumped in on this thread.  My friend has decided to stick with an Access backend for the moment.  There isn't enough data or enough concurrent users to warrant "upsizing" to SQL Server after all.

What happens if the money fields are changed to have the same format as the other numeric fields that do display correctly, and what happens if the numeric fields that do display correctly get changed to money format?  Do the original money but now numeric fields display properly?  Do the prior plain numeric fields that are now money display correctly?

Yes, there are other numeric values, including a foreign key to another table, that all display correctly.

And, are there other numeric, but not currency, fields in the table that do display correctly?  If not, might temporarily add one as a test if this can be done in the server table.

Not as far as I know.  The one example my friend sent me involved typing a number on a row in one of the currency fields.  The number displayed as typed, but disappeared after he saved the row.  He's able to find the row with a query like:

SELECT * FROM MyTable WHERE MoneyField = 123.45

123.45 being the value he typed in the row.  The query finds the row, but displays the field as blank.  If there were extra carriage returns or stray characters, the query would fail.

Has the data been copied and pasted into Excel and/or Notepad from both the server and Access to see what is actually in each of the cells in question?  I've seen this behavior in fields when an unexpected carriage return or some other unprintable characters are present.

I have a friend who has a table on SQL Server with several "money" fields.  When displayed in a Datasheet in Access (via a linked table), the fields show either 0.00 or blank, even though the rows in SQL Server contain values.  He has tried updating one of the money fields (mapped to Currency in Access), and the update appears to go OK on the server, but the field goes blank after he saves the record.

Any ideas?
