Re: [MSAccessProfessionals] Access 2006 Simple question

hi Carol,

adding on ...

The + sign shows whatever table is set in the Subdatasheet property in the table design ... however , it is recommended to set this to [None] for better performance and smoother running. Have a look at this link:

Microsoft Access Flaws - Problem properties by Allen Browne
http://allenbrowne.com/bug-09.html

Subdatasheets are helpful when entering and viewing data directly in tables without forms or queries, but users shouldn't do this! Maybe in the beginning, when a developer is building a system and entering test information, before very much is there, it is ok to use them. They can be handy! Once forms are built to control the information, subdatasheets should be removed. Especially as a database gets lots of records.

If tables used in forms have subdatasheets, then when forms are loaded, even when though those subdatasheets aren't necessary, all that related information is still loaded. When a form has several subforms, and each table is loading other tables, which, in turn, load other tables, this takes more time and can also cause other issues. Why sacrifice performance and risk errors? Better to turn them all off.

kind regards,
crystal

Hi,

Probably by having a foreign key relationship in the relations form with either tables of table/query relationships perhaps.

Hope this helps.

Hi.

Seems the only time I ask a question is when I have a senior moment.   I wrote a basic query years ago.. When I get my results, I somehow connected the result records back to the main database. They can be displayed by clicking on the "+" that shows up to the left of the record.  How did I do that? I tried creating a new query but can not get it.  The original one has the query "related" to the main database by the "Itemnbr ".

The main database (stripped down version) contains: itemnbr, description, cost, sell, purchasedate, selldate.  Nothing fancy.  The query table only contains: itemnbr, selldate.  When I run the query I can click on the result record by using the "+" to recall more details about the item if needed.

Simple!!   Not anymore…… HELP!

I have another senior moment issue, but can wait on than one….I'll try figuring it out for a bit longer before I give up.

Thank you.
