Robin,
If I understand correctly you should be able to set the control source to:
=IIf([Exclude] =True, "Exclude","")
Make sure the name of the control is NOT exclude.
I could be wrong if you are attempting to filter the records based on the value of Exclude or something else. "need a field content for" doesn't make much sense to me.

I have a report with a Yes/No field called 'exclude'. I only need a
field content for the "Yes" option. I have tried this:

which fails. What have I forgotten? BTW I am 87!
