Re: [MS_AccessPros] Powerful Contact Template for Access posted

Dear Crystal,

My situation is not quite as bad as I thought - graphics don't get stored in my emails, they just get inserted from elsewhere when I read the emails.

My connection with the Yahoo Access group goes through four stages. Stage 1 is where messages appear on the group. I have elected to have every message sent to stage 2, my Yahoo mail, where I channel all messages from the Access group into a folder called Access rather than my Inbox. Yahoo does not allow saving of group messages or emails although you can save attachments. Also it doesn't display file sizes. Stage 3 is Outlook Express on my PC, from where I can get to my Yahoo mail via imap. Stage 4 is my storing of messages from Outlook Express, either by dragging them to a local folder in Outlook Express, which removes them from Yahoo Mail, or by dragging them to a folder in my PC's file system.

Your email (to which this is my reply) shows as 108KB in Outlook Express, and stays the same size when stored. This is much larger than other people's posts, but is not due to the graphics, it's just the volume of html code of all the past messages tacked on to your latest text. There is one graphic import at the bottom of your post, part of a link to youtube. The graphic is only 1" high and unreadable, but when I right-click and save it, it turns out to be 143KB (called maxresdefault.jpg) and is a 1280x720 graphic ("Learn Access by Crystal").

If I read your email as text-only, Outlook Express makes the html part into an attachment, filesize 64KB, so the text-only part must be 44KB. If I read your email in the Groups web-page, graphics are not displayed. If I read it in my Yahoo Mail web-page, graphics are not displayed initially but I can click a box to display them.

So my suggestions re your postings are maybe send text-only (cutting the size to half but losing all formatting), and/or or delete all past messages from the bottom of the posting except the one you're answering. I won't be offended if you do nothing though!

Regards,
Dave W

thanks for letting me know, Dave -- I do not add the graphics myself, they are added automatically when I add a link unless, I imagine, my default is set to plain text.

How much space do they take?

Warm Regards,
Crystal

Dear Crystal,

I would prefer you not to include your graphics in this newsgroup, or at least reduce them to their viewing size rather than attach the full original. I am saving most of the posts on here for future reference, but I don't have a modern PC with oodles of file storage space.

This is not a shallow template.  I put my User Manager* in there as well as my Relinker and other features that the contact program alone does not need but will be needed when the application is expanded.

* the User Manager is why there is a configuration process when the contact template is first opened.  Once you set yourself up, when you Save & Close to open the contacts form, you will be welcomed with a short sound clip.  I also put a web browser control in there with a video :)

There is a Bing Map button by the Address information.  It was easy to put in and everyone loves it :)  You can attach notes and files all over the place and ultimately correlate them to each contact.

It is not just for contacts though ... I put careful thought into many table designs that standard businesses need.  Empty table structures and relationships for lots of common needs are in there too.  Comments are sprinkled more liberally than I do for just myself in the code.
Warm Regards,
Crystal

Do you need a better way to keep track of contacts and related information?
Watch the video and then Download the most powerful free Contact Template for Access.

Contacts are the heart of many databases so I developed a contact management system to slide into what I build. This past year, I went through many years of databases I've worked on to find the common ground and design basic business tables which I added to the contact template.

video -- free Access Contact Template, Contact Management System, CMS (cc)
free Access Contact Template: Contact Management System, CMS (cc)

download --
Contact Template, MS Access Gurus - Contacts + Business, free contact managment tool for Microsoft Access

The Admin form has a button to Delete all the sample data.  There are thousands of records for you to learn with.

The Contact Template is split and needs to be configured when it is first opened.  I could have set it up to automatically find the Back End but that does not have as much flexibility as putting my user management system in there, which is what I did.  The video shows how.

Why reinvent the wheel to store contact information and develop forms and reports -- hook into my contact template and save your time for other work ~

I hope you take the time to get the download and use it ~

Warm Regards,
Crystal
