Are you working in Tabbed view or Overlapped Windows view? In Tabbed View,
it is possible to drag the dividing bar down far enough to "lose" the design
grid. F6 will get the focus down there, but you still won't be able to see
it.
Switch the database to Overlapped Windows in Access Options. (You have to
close and reopen after you do that.) Open your query again in Design View,
and you should be able to fiddle with the window edges to be able to see the
Design Grid. Grab the divider line and move it up to make sure you can
still see it if and when you switch back to Tabbed.

Subject: [MS_AccessPros] Grid invisible in query
Hi, I've been revisiting some queries with tables that extend past the
bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, the grid is below the screen as well.
How do I get to the grid? I want to make some revisions. As I've not
worked with this in a while, I don't even remember what I was doing. The
problem is that some of the table names have been changed and some of the
query formulas are complicated. I'd love to bring the grid up!
Thanks
