adding on to Bill's advice ... another advantage of driving with a form is that a report can be put onto a form in a subform control. Forms are best for controlling what happens.

Even if you do not have Access 2010, this functionality can be implemented in lower versions by changing the SourceObject of a subform control to the chosen report
A section of the form can be for criteria. If there is a lot of criteria, I find it easiest to use a report menu form with buttons to open reports using the relevant criteria
