Re: [MSAccessProfessionals] Error 2302

Some good news for the group. My issue has been solved by doing an online Office 365 Repair.

Thanks to everyone who responded. It was nice to see Bill's, Crystal's and Duane's names in my email again. Hope you all are doing well.

I thought I had the email address in my safe senders list.

Crystal,

Thanks for your response. I have another user that uses a folder called Databases instead of Docs and the same issue occurs with this user. My server guys are telling me they don't think it is a KB. The strange thing is that this has worked for about the last 15 years with no issues.  Access is running on a shared app server with Server 2019 as the OS. Each user has their own login and their own copy of the front end.

ps, also, if you can't boot computer, remove drive and mount (in a dock or install) to read from another machine, files in system created folders are protected and not available as files in other folders. I learned this the hard way a long time

hi Doyce,

in my opinion, it is best to avoid using the system created folders. They behave differently than folders you create yourself. I make a root folder called DATA (all caps so it is easy to see) and then hang everything below that.

Duane and Jane,

Thanks for responding. I didn't get Jane's response but I'm glad Duane included it.

The document is saved in the user's documents folder. However the article perfectly describes the issue. I'm checking now to see if that patch has caused the problem.

I agree with Mark. It'll be a Windows Update. More & more of my time seems to be spent working around new updates, especially for users with a 365 subscription.

Where is the temp pdf being saved? If it's in the root of c:\ you may find that the windows user profile won't let you delete it anymore.  So a change to a user folder may be a work around.

Best regards

Jane

original question:

I have some automated procedures that send out reports via email. This procedure has worked well for over 15 years. Suddenly last week, I started getting this error: 2302 Microsoft Access can't save the output data to the file you've selected. The procedure creates a report.PDF temp file that used to go away after the procedure ran. Now it appears the file has some kind of lock on it and it can't be deleted. If the server or PC that Access is running on is rebooted, the file disappears and the procedure will run one time but the next time the procedure runs, it gives the error. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? I can't reboot the server after every procedure and I don't know what has changed. I thought it might be related to the windows user profile so deleted the profile and recreated it but still got the error.
