Re: [MSAccessProfessionals] ReLink procedures

Relationships are in the back so they shouldn't be affected. I recall there is a checkbox that forces changing the links to the original or at least a different back from the current. This should be the same as when you prepare for vacation.

No Zwift for me at the moment. I'm using the free RGT but it's not as engaging :-(

 Bill,

Simple, don't take work on vacation! Take your bike.

Do you edit data in the back-end? Does anyone else edit data while you are on vacation? Have you considered having a PC set up at work that you can remote into? If you simply make changes to the front-end, you should be able to use the linked table manager to connect to the work back-end.

Re: [MSAccessProfessionals] ReLink procedures

Duane,

Yes, I wish it was a biking vacation. It would be much more fun than Zwift.

I use the database for reference.  I don't edit the date because it doesn't save on the master copy.  I wish I could but ….

Yes, other people use the database while I am gone.

I would like to be able to set up that I can remote into.   I have Windows 11 professional so I think it is possible, but I do not know how.

When I open the front end and go to the linked table manager I see the data source name and data source information pointing to the location of the original back end.

What next?  Do I relink or Add.   When I add, I get duplicate tables.  I just tried to relink and it is going through the tables one at a time.

Any tips on setting up Remote PC.

[MSAccessProfessionals] Slow search next / previous on remote server in VPN

I had to move the backend of a project to a remote server and connect it via VPN.

if I search for a specific serial number example:
SELECT serialnumber
FROM tbl Transformer
WHERE serialnumber = '2020001513-001'
the answer is immediate

but if I do it via the next / previus button example:

next:
SELECT TOP 1 serialnumber
FROM tbl Transformer
WHEREserialnumber)> '2020001513-001'
ORDER BY tblTransformer.serialnumber

Previous:
SELECT TOP 1 serialnumber
FROM tbl Transformer
WHERE serialnumber <'2020001513-001'
ORDER BY serialnumber DESC

the first time it takes 30 seconds to find the record, then it finds it almost immediately. However, if I change my sense of research, it always takes 30 seconds the first time.

Is there a faster way?

Thank you very much
Domenico

Re: [MSAccessProfessionals] Error 70 permission denied

Jim

If it used to work and now doesn’t you can blame it on a patch. Perhaps, MS decided to tighten up its sloppy VBA.

Arnelito might have hit on the cause if the error code is to be believed. First thing I would do is check to see if any other processes are running when this code fires. If there aren’t any then go through your code to make sure you set all objects to Nothing when you are through with them as you did with:

Set objFSO = Nothing

I know this must be frustrating to you. Code that suddenly stops working is very difficult to debug.

One more thing…It might be a sign of code page corruption. Importing everything into a new, blank database might help.

Regards,

Bill Mosca

What about permissions on the Source folder? Can you manually copy the current DB to your target? If the file is in use (which it obviously is if you re using CurrentDB) maybe that is where the hang-up is.

Thank You for the compliment. Not every piece of code is formatted like that but it helps me to read it.

So I do not see anything wrong when i hover on the reval line everything is looking at the correct date and the source is correct. that is why I changed to the c drive for the thought that the network drive was not connected or something else. but I am getting the same error.

Re: [MSAccessProfessionals] Error 70 permission denied

Hi Jim

First of all, let me say I love your code. It's clean, properly indented and easy to follow. Over the course of my carrier, I've rarely see this quality.

Let's debug this thing to find what the real error is.

Put a break on the line retval = 0

When the code breaks open the Immediate window (Ctrl+G). Check the DLookup output to make sure it is doing its job in finding what you want. A simple Debug.Print will print out the value in the Immediate Window.

Hover your mouse pointer over "Target" and "Source" to make sure their values are exactly what you were expecting. It looks like it should work as is, but it's important to double-check just to make sure.

Are there any surprises?

Regards,

Bill Mosca

[MSAccessProfessionals] Error 70 permission denied

Hello all,

This morning i ran a piece of code that has been working for quite a long time and today i received a runtime error 70, Permission denied.
when I debug it is on
                retval = objFSO.CopyFile(Source, Target, True)
the source is a network folder

I tried changing the location to a folder on my c drive but I received the error anyway. It is part of an If statement but this has been working for a year now. Has there been another update that has caused this?

Is there something i need to change or is this a permanent situation?
Thank You for any advice offered.

Jim Wagner
Here is my code below

                Dim Source As String
                Dim Target As String
                Dim retval As Integer

                Source = CurrentDb.Name

Re: [MSAccessProfessionals] Backend issues

Now that everyone is back from the holiday vacation I have had no complaints.   I will check with them to make sure.

Bill-
I read somewhere that the latest patches fixed the "single user" bug in Access. And you weren't on a short list. It affected all users who had installed the buggy Office update. Once again, MS has made Office so complex that the slightest change in one piece can have terrible consequences and the amount of testing by MS corporate developers is never thorough.

The Access team is aware of this problem. For those affected by the latest patch adversely, here are instructions to rollback to an earlier version:

For MSI builds, see: Information about the ability to uninstall Office

For Microsoft 365, see: How to revert to an earlier version of Office 2016 Click-to-Run

Hi Bill

If this just started suddenly this morning then I would suspect an overnight update to MS Office (especially as its Tuesday!)

Can you please check what Access build each computer is running (File > Account > About Access).

You should see a page of information and licence guff, and up the top there is something like this:
Microsoft Access 2016 MSO (Version 2110 Build 16.0.14527.20234) 32-bit

which you can right-click on and copy.

Please report back for all three computers.

Best wishes
Graham
