Re: [MS_AccessPros] Re: Need information

Hi Khalid,
Changes to a back-end should be rare compared with the front-end. If you have deployed your application to a single location at your client's then it may be possible to get enough off line time from them to make changes to a back-end and return to them. I have used code in the past that would:
1) on opening of the front-end, check the version of the back-end (value in a back-end table)
2) if the back-end doesn't include specific tables/fields, then use DAO or transferDatabase to update the back-end
3) update the back-end version

I could add fields, tables, indexes etc with code in the front-end. This required exclusive use of the database temporarily but had very little impact on the users. They might need to allow only a few minutes for the upgrade.

For updating the front-end I provided the MDE (this was a long time ago) which the client was responsible for distributing. Often I would help with creating a VBS script file.

Regards,
Duane

Hi all & respected MVP's,

After more than a year I'm back, the reason is that I'm sick and on bed due to problem with my legs & feet, moreover my laptop was destroyed.

Anyways struggling and now ambitious to start working, during my this period of illness I think over what I have been doing and was forced and stop me on one main point which, I was doing wrong from the very beginning which I ignored and now realized that is a must. It was giving to my client .be + .accde instead of giving .fe + .accde.

But I've some concerns in this regard for which I'm not clear, I need & request complete guidance step by step, I remember John helped and posted in perhaps last quarter of 2013 how to secure FE and I put one module about shift bypass key in my database.

Now in a week or so I have to make many changes in my application on the request and demand of my client, so that is why I need help and guidance from the group.

Very first thing is that I've always given BE and .ACCDE to my client, I mean to say whenever the changes or updating was demanded by him, I took his BE make necessary work, copy his BE on my laptop and pass him his BE and latest .ACCDE.

Now for the first time I will give him secured FE + .ACCDE, should I ask him to delete his BE or it may remain on his system.

Secondly, what is the procedure of giving FE to client, would I have to make separate copy of secured FE for my client and protected copy of FE for me to make future updating and changes.

Need help please.

Regards

Khalid
