I've seen similar things with memo fields on reports and forms in which I had to substring to 255 and concatenate back together.

James - That indicates corruption. Try compacting the database. If that doesn't help import everything into a new, blank database.
If none of the above fixes your problem you will have to dig down in the macros to find the cause. What is the source of the data?
Sorry for not being able to offer a direct fix, but there are so many places where something like this can go wrong.
