Re: [MS_AccessPros] exclusive access on dev copy of db

Liz-

After you work in Design, then what do you do?  Test the app?  If, during testing, a recordset gets left open somewhere, then you won't be able to go into Design again until you close and reopen the database.  That's what I think is happening.

Yes.  I open the development copy meant for design, with the shift key down, open a report in design mode, and either then or even after I successfully deleted a field on the report I'll get the message.

Not sure where your imagination went after that…

Liz-

What do you mean by "a little design work?"  When you work on the design of any database (including the code behind a form), you should have just the one object you're working on open and in Design view.  If you try to dink with code in a form in Form view, events occurring on the form could cause strange things to happen.  Never do design in a "running" application.

Pros, I have this database where I can get in and do a little design work and inevitably try to do some more and then it says I don't have exclusive access to the database and won't keep design changes.

I've decompiled, compiled, compacted and repaired, built a whole new database and such.

There was one thing I found that said something about cycle should be on all records instead of current record on the form or you might get something like that but that doesn't seem to do anything one way or another.

Ideas anyone?
