Hi Glenn,
the reason I like customizing the QAT is because it always shows what I want to click on ... darn ribbon switches -- that is an extra click and another place to have to look. I have my QAT below the ribbon so it can fit more icons without running into the Application Title ... and the ribbon is usually collapsed ;) ~
My current QAT customization file is here (it doesn't have all the icons I like to add):
http://MsAccessGurus.com/temp/AccessCustomizations_141005__exportedUI.zip
to use my QAT customizations instead of yours:
.1. unzip
.2. open Access
.3. click down-arrow at end of QAT and choose --> More commands...
(or Files, Options, Quick Access Toolbar)
.4. In the lower right of the dialog box, choose Import/Export
.5. then Import customization file
if you already have customizations you want to keep, export yours first so you can restore it -- or edit with a text editor ~
if there is interest, I will post my QAT customization file in the forum Files too ~
Warm Regards,
Crystal

Customizing the ribbon is another way to enhance your day to day work in Office 2010. For Access, I have custom tab that I call Development Management. On that tab I have two custom groups, Application Management and Application Development. I have included Backup Database, Compact and Repair, Open Recent File, and Save Object As. I have this tab located before the Home Tab and I find that helps me to remember to start the day with Backing up the database.

Hi James,
adding to Glenn's idea of doing "Save Object As. If that works you could at the Save Object As to the QAT."
I find SaveAs very useful and add it to my QAT (Quick Access Toolbar) in Access and other Office apps too ... Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ...
here is a video on how to add it:
Tip: Add Save As Icon to QAT (cc) - Français, Dutch, Deutsch, English

I'm with you on not upgrading! I skipped version 9 because 8 was working well. With the coming of the new Yosemite OS, however, version 8 is not compatible. Since I plan on upgrading to Yosemite, going to Parallels 10 was required.
I'll report back what happens.

I'm running V9, and I have no problem with copy / paste of table or query objects. I see a new version is available, but I'm not that interested in paying another $49.95 for an upgrade - particularly if you're having problems! (If it ain't broke, don't fix it!)
I will be interested to see if you get this resolved.

From previous conversations, I knew you were on a Mac but didn't recall Parallels. I've been happy until now with Parallels having used versions 6, 7, 8 and now 10. Until now, all has worked flawlessly, and I would never have know that I wasn't back on my Windows machine. But now this one issue has arisen with copying queries and tables in Access—but I'll eventually get it resolved!

Thanks, John. I did go ahead and reinstall Parallels Tools as you suggested, but that made no difference. I also looked at the keyboard configuration but didn't see anything there that appeared out of line. So I'm still flummoxed but at least have a good workaround with the Ctrl-drag that Bill mentioned. I'll eventually reinstall Access and see if that helps. If not, I'll reinstall Parallels, but all of that will have to wait until a less critical period.
Are you running Parallels now? I was thinking that you were using VM Fusion.

Have you checked to see if Parallels Tools got installed properly after the upgrade? It wouldn't hurt to go to Virtual Machine / Reinstall Parallels Tools. Also check the settings in Devices / Keyboard.

Glenn and Bill,
Thanks for the responses! No, there are no shortcuts to other programs or macros involved here that I'm aware of. I'm convinced that it issue is related somehow to the update of virtual machine, and I just need to figure out what that is. It's possible that the VM update did do something to the Ctrl-C in Access, and I'll try to track that down once this critical project is finished. Ctrl-C works just find in Excel, however.
I do appreciate the follow up!

Good idea, Glenn.
James - by any chance, do you have a macro named AutoKeys in your database. AutoKeys is a macro that can be built to override special keys. There might be a combination of Ctrl+C that has two steps: one to copy and one to run the query.

Bill, the Ctrl-drag appears to work perfectly. I had tried it before posting but was dragging too far, and It didn't do anything. But you indicated "drag a little," and when I did that, the "+" sign appeared to create a copy. Strangely enough, the Ctrl-C still runs the query, which I don't want. I'll stick with Ctrl-drag until I get Access reinstalled. It's very handy and gets me out of a jam.
Thanks!!

The problem began with the installation of an updated virtual machine about two weeks ago, so the problem has to be related to that in some way even though Parallels (VM supplier) tech support blames Microsoft. Something is obviously amiss, so I'm first going to do the easy thing and reinstall Access to see if that will fix the problem. If not, I'll move on to something else. I haven't tried Ctrl-drag but will do so.On Mon, Sep 29, 2014 at 2:49 PM, wrmosca@... [MS_Access_Professionals] <MS_Access_Professionals@yahoogroups.com> wrote:JamesI've never seen that happen. Are you copying the query in the Navigation Pane? When I copy a query I just hold down the Ctrl key and drag the query a bit away from itself.
