[AccessDevelopers] Re: Importing Excel Data

Let me see if I can further explain. The spreadsheet in question has as stated below the first four columns; dept, description, source(where the information will be coming from) and then the rest of the columns will be the information for each of these departments for each day. Each column will have the date at the tope and statistic for that department on that day.

I will then need to be able to grab statistic for the specific department and for a specific day. They are trying to link to the spreadsheet so that as the new day's data is updated it will be available for the database.

Everyday I will need to know how many people are in a specific department to see if they have enough coverage for those patients.

I know I can link the spreadsheet but I am afraid that because the data is going accross instead of down I will have trouble making a robust process.

If you have columns in the spreadsheet where there are 25 rows that have no data, Access will not recognize those columns as dates. I know, because I had to experiment with that; a date in the 25th row was okay, but the 26th row was not! I believe that what I did then was to import the data into an existing table with the columns already defined as date fields.
