[AccessDevelopers] Access - Word OLE Problems

I have an Access table in which each record contains a Word document, stored in an OLE object field. The records are displayed in a continuous form and users open a document by double-clicking the object field, causing Word to open and display the document for viewing and editing. When viewing/editing is finished, closing the document automatically updates the OLE object. This has been working perfectly since Office 97, but appears to be broken in Office 2010.

Now, when I close a document, more often than not the document is deleted from the OLE field, leaving it empty. The document is irretrievably lost from the Access record.

This happens regardless of how the document is closed â€" ALT-F4; CTRL-F4; ‘File, Close and Return’; simply closing Word; pressing the Save button first â€" the result seems to be the same â€" sometimes the document is updated to the OLE field, and sometimes the OLE field is just left empty.

Most of the tables are replicated, which restricts me to using Access 2000-2003 databases, but I have tried with different database versions, from 2000 to 2010, and it makes no difference.

Can anyone suggest how to solve the problem without having to export everything and abandon OLE altogether?
