You are most welcome! Thanks for the kind words - I wish you all success. In a way, post retirement stage can be regarded as a golden phase in one's life. You are your own master, free of shackles, with absolute freedom over your time and energy.
Sometime back, I came across an article stating that one needs to remain intellectually active so as to prevent rusting of mental faculties with advancing years (I am approaching 75 this year end). On first impulse, I toyed with the idea of taking up chess as post retirement hobby (my pension happens to cover my financial needs adequately).
However, in chess, both the participants can't be simultaneously happy on conclusion of a serious game. Another down side with chess is the time and effort spent do not quite translate into some concrete contribution to society. It is seen that even if a person is blessed with the means and freedom to spend life in idle luxury, a sense of fulfillment would most likely remain elusive unless there is an element of giving back to the community.
Fortunately, I came across Access and found it easy to learn. The first two books that helped me get along were (a) Access For Dummies and (b) Access Developers Handbook (a must have). I am not familiar with any programming language other than VBA. Access desktop and Excel are the only applications that I have mainly played with. I have no experience with SQL server or multi-user set up.
As an abundant precaution, I try to keep up with various other hobbies like reading, listening to music, assisting needy children in getting education, watching movies etc so that if at some stage, it is no longer found feasible to continue with programming activity, there is no sudden emptiness.

You understood correctly. A.D. took up Access as a hobby after he retired. And he tends to take on big challenges, leaving the simple stuff to the rest of us here. :O)
You didn't miss anything by not using 2007. What a dog! (No offense to the canine population). 2010 has some amazing features, but when you come right down to it, it's the basic application that gets used and not much of that has changed.
