Re: [MSAccessProfessionals] Selected collating sequence not supported.

Just FYI in case anybody encounters this in the future, the solution appears to be to go to the File tab, click the options link and under 'Creating databases' set the 'New database sort order' to 'General - legacy'. No idea a) how this setting changed or b) why this setting would make old databases have this problem but it appears that it does.

Finally just for reference this was Access 365, and the problem did NOT occur for .accdb databases.

Happy weekend all.

Good afternoon all.

I have a database that I have been using and updating for over 10 years. The database is .mdb and not .accdb. The database has three macros one of which calls a function which is a complicated import and data processing process. As part of this process it creates a backup, so I have lots and lots of backups of this database.

Over the last several days I have been writing an additional import function that I have been testing in a copy of the database. Today when I was sure everything was correct I copied over the new tables, queries and functions. I ALSO ADDED THE NEW MACRO TO THE RIBBON under a custom group I already had created for the other 3 macros under database tools. (Options >> Customize Ribbon >> Macros >> Add).

Now every time I try and compact the database I get "Selected collating sequence not supported with the specified file format". This even happens to databases months old that have none of the new changes. Even when I delete the new Macro from the custom ribbon and run 2 month old databases I'm now getting the same error.

Definitely seems like changing the ribbon has somehow effected something, even when the changes are reversed. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks
Sean
