Bill, I always recommend this group. I tell them just how much B/E has saved by what I've learned and implemented from you guys.
A situation I had recently was where someone put on their evaluation / professional dev goal for the year to learn Access. Well, good! So he did create a db and I was there to assist when he got stuck. For the last couple of things that needed some vba I helped out and told him what he needed to finish out with (skills that he had already acquired and demonstrated) and turned it back to him.
A few times.... yes a few! HIS boss emailed me ----- this isn't working... can you tell me why? I would reply every time. "I don't know. Ask --- it's his database."
I think it miffed him, but well... how can someone be evaluated on something when it keeps coming back to me? It is his opportunity for success. Not mine.

Liz
I feel for you. I'm the only Access guy in our IT department, and employees from all departments have come to know me through the myriad of database applications I've built.
Sometimes, all they want is a quick task and ask me to show them how to do it. Other times, I end up getting assigned a whole new project. The ones who are trying to build a database on their own can be troublesome. I make sure they understand that I'm helping them on my own time so I make sure they make an appointment at a time that is convenient for me and it has to be 30 minutes or less.
Through all this, I've come to know many wonderful people. And there are many who know me through me work. It's kind of spooky to have someone say, "So YOU'RE Bill Mosca!"
Crystal's videos are a great place to start if they really want to learn and not just spend 10 minutes in Access and then trash their work.
Don't forget to recommend our group. Lots of times they will actually join or at least lurk.

I've had the personal experience where I said "yes" to too many people and did things that a trained monkey could do while not improving my skills and my assistant got a promotion over me making 7k more... and that was decades ago...

As it is, any new professional development I do has to be on my own time on my own equipment and software, so my time is limited. Between a long commute and other activities, I simply do not have time to spoon feed people who think they can sit down with me to learn Access.
