When my client moved my Access 2010 app from XP to Win7, email stopped working; unbeknownst to me, CDO was using the local SMTP service that was included in XP, but not in 7. Their Exchange is not allowing relay, and I don't know the pickup folder ... ok so smtp/cdo is out, I'll try Outlook again, maybe its better in 2010? I have been avoiding the Outlook object model and ClickYes and all those headaches for many years by using CDO, but I thought I'd give it a try.
If users have to "allow another application to use outlook" so be it. So I add my old "dim appOut as Outlook.Application", create new message, add recipient, etc. And it sent, with no prompts!
Except now it seems that if Outlook is open, all is well; if Outlook is closed, no errors, but no mail.
My question is, is this "normal" behavior for 2010 on Win7? Or is this a quirk maybe in the current environment, and will I have to worry when this is deployed elsewhere?
thanks,
Steve Conklin
