Re: [MS_AccessPros] Re: Song Database

Thanks Onno.  I like that idea of a combination composer listed for duos instead of composer1 or composer2 or something that would be awkward.  But I also have separate fields for LyricsBy and MusicBy because they can be completely different as well.  However, I'd like to be able to tie them in together when they are the same, so reports could simply state "Words and Music By" - open to suggestions, but I'll continue to experiment.  Thanks!  Jerry Boor, Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA

Hi I  happen to have my own song database, actually it is my msaccess hobby project ...

I have hree suggestions.  First: composers often appear in( sometimes famous) duos like lennon- mccartney and jagger-richards. These have become trademarks of their own.  I store them as duo, not as two single composers. So I  have one song , one composer ( which may consist of a combination).

Two:  I have a synonyms table for composers. So John Lennon & Paul McCartney is synonym to lennon-mccartney. If I encounter variants of these, I create a synonym. By the way I read the names from mp3 tags which are often faulty.

Three: My composers are stored in the same table as performers. So a performer may also be a composer and vice versa. A song has two links to the table performer, one for the actual performer and a second for the composer. So some performers do not perform any song but are just composers.

This works for me, and works faster than having to enter several individual composers with a song.
