Thanks John. I was somewhat aware of that but my question remains whether the functionality of the account meets the requirements of Jim without using Access. I know we all love Access but there are times when alternatives are better suited.

Duane-

You can use your Hotmail, Outlook, or even old MSN account to get logged into the Microsoft "Cloud". OneDrive is a part of that - Jim has already tried it.

I had a Hotmail email account which is now Outlook.com. There are some features like Calendar and Tasks. I'm not sure if this functionality is provided since I am a MS MVP or if it's available to everyone with an Outlook.com email account.

Also, I don't know the extent of the functionality you want regarding managing projects and tasks. This could be anything from a simple task list that you can check off to something like MS Project.

It would be better to split it - that way Dropbox only has to keep your data synchronized. You can put the front end in any other folder - put a copy on all machines that you want to be able to run the app. Just make sure Dropbox is installed on all of them.

I put the database in the folder and it working great. But you are suggesting that I still split the database? But I am unclear about what you said for putting the data back end in the dropbox folder on the computer. Where are you suggesting the FE be stored?

Actually, you can put the database - or just the data back end - in your DropBox folder on your computer. You'll update locally, but DropBox will keep a synchronized copy in the Cloud and will automatically update it on any other device where you're signed in with the same ID. Sounds like an ideal solution for you.

It opens but with errors. I have a splash screen that opens and then closes after performing some actions. Then the errors show up. Then I have a read only bar at the top, that wants me to save as to a folder. I guess that I could store it in onedrive and just move it out of the folder every day.

Hello all,

I have a database that I enter in my tasks and projects for work. It is a personal database that I keep on my flash drive. I back it up in OneDrive each day after using. I was thinking that there has to be a better way of getting to my database so that has more portability. Something that I could open on my work laptop or my work desktop or my personal desktop or laptop.

I was looking at Azure but that seems a bit much for such a small database. The cost does not seem to be worth the 25 MB footprint. Although it would be nice to learn how to use it. I have SSMS on my work machines and my laptop. But I am not sure how that would keep the Access database portable.

I do not have a web location to store the Access database either. What are some thoughts that the forum users have?
