[MS_AccessPros] Re: Link ms access frontend to tables in SQL Server.

Kevin

PC's are not meant to handle loads from multiple users. I've seen small businesses do this with what used to be called peer-to-peer networks, but everything slows down and makes the users very unhappy, not to mention production suffering.

I realize servers are very expensive but there is a reason for that. Their processors are much more powerful and the hard drives are usually RAIDs (arrays of disks) that are much more reliable than single disks.

You mean I should use a real server instead of PC, right? Why is it terrible to use PC as a server? Thank.

Kevin

Good luck using a PC as a server. Performance will be terrible. But to link to the tables all you have to do is create a File DSN through your Control Panel>Administrative Tools>ODBC Admin. Follow the steps to conenct to your SQL server instance and make sure you set the default database to the one that has your tables.

Save the DSN file to a shared folder and lilnk the tables using that DSN.

As you get more advanced skills under your belt, you can write code to link without a DSN file.
