Installing SQL Server on a network server is something best left to your network
people. They have policies and security in place and know (or should know) how
to install SQL Server without breaking something. If you are the network guy
you'll have to do some reading at the SQL Server site to make sure you are
installing the software correctly. It is a very complex engine.
Once it is installed you will have to create a SQL Server instance to hold you
database. You can probably just use the default settings when doing this. If you
have never done this before I suggest that you fall back on your network guys to
do this. Tell them to make you a system administrator so you have full
permissions.
When you are at the point where you want to migrate your Access database to SQL
you can use Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access.

Select Access as the database type for conversion and download the tool. It
works far better than the SQL up-sizer that comes with Access.
