Re: [MSAccessProfessionals] forms not opening in Windows Home

Adding on … if memory serves me correctly, the shared Access BE would open in read-only mode for the home user – unless they were first – then it was read-only for the others. Home doesn't have all the file permissions that Professional does. I suspect that, under the covers, it does, but a necessary permission(s) for Access to create, modify, delete and share the LACCDB file is disabled

Hi Mark,

Only personal experience. Wrote an Access application for a company with a LAN and handful of users. If I recall correctly, if the Windows Home user got on first, the LACCDB file was locked for other users – or maybe the home user couldn't get on second. Don't recall the details but getting everyone on a professional version of Windows fixed the problem.

At the time I did do some research but didn't save any links.

Kind regards,
crystal

Crystal,

Oh, that's interesting news - do you have any documentation or links that describe the issues with Windows Home editions more fully?

Hi Bill,

Windows Home does NOT have ability to share the LACCDB file because of its crippled permissions – so you're going to have to update your home user of Windows to a professional version.

Kind regards,

Is Cancel set to True in the Form_Open event?

You may also want to decompile the app.

In our office we have a few Windows 11 Professional systems and one Windows 11 Home system.

I just did an upgrade to our Access Database and now, for some reason some of the upgraded buttons that open forms will not work.

I also tried to click on the form directly and it still would not open.  The form that will not open is a new form.

Any thoughts as to a solution?
