This database is really awesome. It is going to really help my tasks and projects database a lot. I might need to run an update query to the table from my main tasks table to really be interactive.

Thank You

Jim,

That is a nice suggestion.

I have updated the sample (Crosstab_CalendarStyleTaskPlanner) accordingly. Apart from using existing combo boxes, the user now has the alternative of clicking Next / Prev buttons for year as well as month.

If Next button for month is clicked while it is already at December, the month changes to January, with simultaneous increase of year by one. Similarly, if Prev button for month is clicked while it is already at January, the month changes to December, with simultaneous decrease of year by one.

Best wishes,

What about having the ability to move to the next or previous months with an arrow instead of choosing from a drop down?

Sorry to infringe on your development design. Just wanted to throw that out for an idea

I just downloaded it. It goes right to the current date. That is awesome. I am thinking of implementing this into my task and project database. I might see if I can change the employees to projects.

Jim,

Thanks for the corroboration. In the present version, initial focus goes to first Monday on second row - as a safe destination for all combinations of year months.

I have since updated the sample db (Crosstab_CalendarStyleTaskPlanner). On opening the form, current year and current month are shown, and current day of the month gets highlighted. As the user makes selections from the year and month combos, current day is highlighted if the year month combination happens to be current one, otherwise, first day of the selected month gets highlighted.

You might like to verify this behavior in updated version and confirm.

Best wishes,
A.D. Tejpal

I did a fresh download of the database and it works. Not sure what happened. When I open the f_TaskPlan form the highlighted cell is on the 4th of June 2012. Is it supposed to go the current date?

James,

I conducted a trial by fresh download from Roger's site. The sample db is found to work smoothly at my end (Access 2003 on Win XP).

Drop down list for the year combo box holds four years starting from current one, apart from all the earlier years if any data has previously been added. Combo box for months enables selection of desired month. On opening, the form, default values are current year and current month respectively.

What is your version of access? Is the form responding at all? Do you see the drop down lists on clicking the combo boxes? As a first step, you should try out the sample db in its original state, as it is (without making any change). You might like to make another attempt. If still unsuccessful, you could send your downloaded copy to me for further examination.

Best wishes,
A.D. Tejpal

I downloaded that awhile back and I went in to the calendar database and I had some tasks entered and noticed that I could not move to any month other than June. I could go to any year but not any month. Am I doing something wrong?

James,

My sample db named Crosstab_CalendarStyleTaskPlanner might be of interest to you - for providing some working ideas. It demonstrates user interaction directly into individual cells on a form, in a style similar to that for a wall calendar and incorporates generation of corresponding reports - in calendar format. The sample is in Access 2000 file format and is available at Rogers Access Library. Link:
http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=45

In this context, two of my other sample db's as mentioned below (both available at the above site) might also be of interest:

(a) Form_VirtualRecordsMatrix
(b) Query_CrosstabAttendanceMarking

Form_VirtualRecordsMatrix incorporates task planner in two styles (a - As per each day of the given month) and (b - As per half hourly time slots on the given day). It uses a modified version of calendar form originally developed by Allen Browne. Following features have been incorporated while implementing the adaptation:

(a) Use of calendar form as a subform.
(b) Mild highlighting (persistent) of today's date - This is in addition to strong highlighting of selected date.
(c) Two way synchronization between calendar subform and task planner subform.

Best wishes,
A.D. Tejpal

Thanks Duane

Fortunately the form doesn't need to be editable - just dynamic -
changing with the year of the date that is put on the form. The text box
thing sounds daunting - a minimum of 365 (plus the odd extra one) -
actually is 37 per month given the shift thing that can happen which
makes it 444 for a year.

James,
It's a bit more difficult to create a form with the calendar style
particularly if you require it to be editable.

When I have needed to do this with a form, I have
-created a totally unbound form with code to fill and format text boxes
-push data to an un-normalized table for display on a continuous form

There are also third party controls you can purchase for this.
