I would do two separate fields - one text and one numeric.  If you know which types of analyses need text and which need numeric, you can put code in the Current event of the form editing the data to enable / disable the appropriate fields so that the user doesn't put a number in the text field.

I am thinking that the Result field will need to be string data.  However, for the data that is numeric I will want to convert to decimal and do math such as average, max, min, etc.  

In searching the net I find the VAL function which will convert a string to numeric, but just until a non-numeric character is found in the string.  In the case where a < or > symbol exists, it is the first character, so this isn't going to work.  And truthfully, I am not even sure I want it to work for < and > values.  

Anyone have advice for this?
