Re: [MS_AccessPros] create links in tab control

Hi Onno,

I relied earlier with an answer ... did you see it?

Additionally, another way to filter is to use a TempVar or Database property to set the current MapID ~

warm regards,

That's a bit clearer.  How are the four tables related to each other?  What is the Record Source of the five forms?

On a side note, since Maprecords is a subform of Mapdetails, if the link child / link master properties are set correctly, then you only need to solve for Maprecords.

Hi John,

Okay, let me try again.

5 forms: Maplist, Mapdetails, Mapfiles, Mapreference

4 tables: Map, Maprecords, filelink, Mapref

Maplist shows some attributes of all maps primarily ordered by map_id;
Mapdetails shows all attributes from 1 map
Mapfiles shows a list of files; and the corresponding maps  (each file could  have serveral maps)
Maprecords shows the info per spot on each map. At present this is a subform of mapdetails
Mapreference has the spot as primary entry and shows the maps that it is connected with.

As mentioned, i would like to reorder these 5 fomrs in a tab control, in such a way that when you ae  omn a certain map in one tab and you switch tabs, you land in the same map in another tab. In a subform you have child and master relations, but here we merely have several views on a complex set of data.

Is a tab control suitable for this, or should I just put buttons on each form to switch to the right position on another form?

Kind regards,

Onno

No, not clear.  Are you saying that all four forms have the table as the Record Source?  If that's the case, then I need to know the structure of the table.

 Hi John,

A common table in all forms is the table map.

However some of the forms use map  linked to some other table to show another perspective.

The main form therefore, can have  map as recordsource, but the relevant info is in the subforms that are behind tab control. So, I wonder if this will help.

Some subforms  show a list of  maps, soe show details of just one map.

The idea is that you may select  a record from a list and then have  the contents of the other forms  move to that same record.

Hope I am clear enough in my description ...

Is there a Record Source in the outer form?  If so, what is it?  And what is the Record Source (SQL if queries) of the four subforms?

Dear Pro's

What is the best way to organize a set of coherent forms  by means of a tab control.

I have a set of  maps,

Each map has a file link in a table fileLink

A map has map records in a table Maprecords

The totals of these reocrds are in a table called Maptotals

I have  a set of 4 forms; map list, (continuous)  mapdetails, ( single)  maptotals (single)  and files ( continuous)

i want to order them in a main form with  4 tabcontrols,

BUT: when I am on a record in one form and I switch tabs,

I want the other tab to be on the same record.

How do I organise this with the least amount of programming?

Can I use  parent- child link fields for subforms?

As I understand, these work in one direction, from parent to child,

but not  the other way round.

What is the best  design to choose?

kind regards,

 Onno Knol
