Re: [MS_AccessPros] Ms access using SQL server

Terence-

The banks don't use one big honking computer for their network.  As an example, each ATM has it's own dual-CPU and redundant drive computer, and it does authorizations from a local copy of the database that is constantly being updated in the background.  For PIN validations, it actually uses info encrypted on your bank card stripe or your card chip.

For their online websites, they do use huge servers, but these are regionalized and replicated.  I would have to do some research to try to figure out what percentage of the banking market is held by the main players - Microsoft, Oracle, and IBM.

John, I did run the test, the improvement was small at best. However, I will use it.

This is a small little application, how do these mega systems, like my bank, get such fast access speed on their transnational systems ?

I can only assume they are using things like HUGE IBM DB2 systems ?
